FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Low Power FM Serves Up Big Beats In Honolulu
Honolulu, Hawaii – Oahu welcomes Honolulu's newest, most unique, Low Power FM radio station, the only LPFM to ever exist on island. My959 is one of only a few 100% dance radio stations in America, and the only non-stop Electronic Dance Music (EDM) station in Honolulu. Broadcasting from near downtown Honolulu, listeners can tune in to 95.9 FM from Diamond Head to Ewa Beach or stream to any desktop or smartphone worldwide at www.my959.com.
My959 plays the newest, hottest dance hits on the globe and features the biggest global deejay superstars presenting their unique shows including various musical styles from trance, progressive, house, techno, and drum and bass anytime throughout the week. EDM is quickly gaining popularity in America, with most of the music coming from the UK and Europe where it has already exploded onto the mainstream music scene.
My959 FM is 100% listener supported, 100% commercial free, and all staff are 100% volunteers with no salaries, just a passion for dance music. This allows for open programming and the ability to play the best music from across the globe, not the same twenty songs in rotation. With listeners growing weary of the usual, corporate controlled radio rotations, My959 offers a fresh sound for music lovers and is picking up in popularity locally. One Facebook friend said “after seven years in Hawaii, I finally listen to the radio!” Another commented, “I can’t get enough of this station. It starts the day right.”
Program and Music Director, Bruce Taggart spent five years developing one of the most popular dance channels on Live365.com, Tag Art Music Online. Taggart brings his unique and successful format of dance hits exclusively to 95.9 FM. General Manager and founder is Jay Dietz, also one of three directors on the board of Ohana Broadcasters Corporation, the non-profit that operates the station. Dietz stated, “The response to the station has really exceeded our expectations. Big corporate controlled stations on the mainland simply can’t fill a niche in Hawaii like a locally controlled, non profit community low power fm station can. That’s the key to our success.” Dietz added, “We play fun, uplifting, high energy music 24 hours a day without commercials. Who doesn’t like that?”
The LPFM class of service was created by the FCC more than a decade ago to give local non-profit organizations such as Ohana Broadcasters a less expensive means of radio station ownership. 36 applicants applied for the sole available frequency on Oahu in 2000 and after a decade of waivers and legal wrangling with the FCC, Hawaii’s Dance Station was born. As funding and support continues to increase, 95.9 FM hopes to expand the station with translators, digital TV, and other future available mediums to reach more of Hawaii’s residents with 24 hours of uninterrupted commercial free dance music.
